The Game of Craps: The Basic Bet

August 16, 2013

The game of craps is often met with some hesitation because it seems daunting, but in fact, craps is pretty easy once the rules are learned. The craps table, both online and off is covered in felt with a diagram that shows the types of bets that can be wagered on it. The center section of the craps table shows where the one roll bets and the hardways can be bet. The ends of the table indicate the Pass Line, Place Bets, the Field Bets and Come Bets. Each end of the craps table is identical to each other. In most casinos, both online and off, the craps table layout is green in color with lettering in the color white. This may vary in some casinos, but holds true in most cases.

The bet that is often talked about as being the one to play is the Pass Line Bet. Why? Because it is basic and the standard. In a Pass Line bet, you are essentially betting with the dice. You are essentially hoping that the dice will land on a 7 or an 11. If this occurs, your bet is doubled immediately. If, however, a 4, a 5, a 6, an 8, a 9 or a 10 is rolled, then that establishes what is referred to as a point number. When this point number is set, you want that number to be rolled before a 7 is. If the craps shooter happens to roll that point number before a 7 is rolled, then your money is doubled. If the number 2, the number 3, or the number 12 is rolled, then the wager is lost. Following an establishment of the point, if a 7 is rolled then you also lose your bet.

Some craps players wager Don't Pass Bets. These are basically the opposite of the Pass Line bets. You are betting against the dice in this case. Rather than hoping a 7 or an 11 happens on a come out roll, you are seeking for the dice to land on a 2, a 3, or a 12. If that happens, your money is doubled. When the point number becomes established, you are seeking to see a 7 prior to the point number when the dice is rolled again.

In the game of craps, many casino players tend to stick with certain types of bets. This is their strategy. There are numerous books and online articles that emphasize certain bets over others, but as craps is a game of chance, there is not necessarily an optimal strategy that is the end all be all in the game. It then becomes a matter of the dice landing on what you need to double your money. Craps is a very exciting game and not all that hard once the types of bets are learned. Many online casinos allow you to practice the game first, so you can get the hang of how it works online. It is important when searching out an online casino that you try and practice beforehand unless you are a craps expert.
