Video Poker at Online Casinos

August 23, 2013

Video poker is a type of casino game that is based on the card game of poker. It is played on a console that is computerized that is similar to that of a slot machine. Video poker was first introduced in the early 1970s and has become a popular casino game among casino enthusiasts. Video poker games are easy to use and they require neither dealer interaction nor interaction with other casino players. The combinations of cards, as with the reels on the slot machines are governed by a randomized generator.

Video poker, however, differs from slot machines as it adds a different skill element. Casino players have to make decisions and these decisions essentially affect the outcome. Cards are required to be dealt from a randomly shuffled deck of 52 cards and as a result of this, the possible combinations are known therefore providing the casino player with the ability to formulate a winning strategy. As a consequence of this, many riverboats and casinos in general tried to disallow such games of chance. The best video poker machines, though are the ones that give odds that rival that of any online table game. The basic game is known as Jacks or Better. There are other types such as Deuces Wild, which offer significantly positive expectations to the casino player.

Casino enthusiasts have often asked why casinos both online and off would provide the game of video poker when it can be beaten. There are only a small percentage of casino players that know how to play the game of Video poker properly; hence, there are several mistakes that those who do not will undoubtedly make. In many competitive markets, online casinos and land casinos tend to walk a tightrope in terms of offerings to casino players as they have to be appealing to the casino player as well as make a profit. There are enough individuals that play online video poker, however, where there is an element of understanding that there will always be winners and there will always be losers.

In the game of Video poker, the payouts are based on five card poker hands including the Royal Flush, which is an ace, king, queen, jack, and 10 of the same suit; the straight flush, which is 5 consecutive cards of the exact same suit such as a 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of spades; the four of a kind, which is four cards of the same rank; the full house, which is three card of one rank and two cards of another; the flush, which is 5 cards of the same suit; the straight, which is five consecutive cards of various suits; the three of a kind, which is three cards of the same rank; and the two pair, which is two cards of one rank. Almost all Video poker machines provide variations of 5 card draw poker. Several attempts have been made to try and introduce other types of Video poker machines, however, the five card draw is the basic game and because of this, most casinos both online and off have opted not to do that. Video poker is quite fun. Each Video poker machine features a video screen where the casino player can see the cards that are being dealt. Every win is compiled as credits.
